Governor Christie, a Republican, announced Tuesday at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center that he had struck a deal with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, for the two states to share prescription data.

Each record includes the names of the patient, doctor and pharmacy, as well as other information, allowing doctors to identify “doctor shopping” for controlled dangerous substances, such as addictive opiates that often lead to heroin abuse.
